•    go to Resources -> Online Image Resources - list of annotated links to variety of image resources
•    also a link to the IRC blog “The Red Dot”, which contains regular updates on collection news and new image sites: http://ucsbvrc.wordpress.com

The Image Resource Center’s online image database (MDID):

   -   UCSB PreModern Bibles
   -   UCSB Theater & Dance Department Collection
   -   UCSB Classics Department Collection
   -   UCSB Film & Media Studies Department Collection
•    MDID allows instructors to save, download, organize, share and present images
•    MDID Help menu has useful tutorials and guides

  • A licensed digital image library, with over a million images and growing, covering areas of art, architecture, humanities and social sciences
  • Self register for regular account, request instructor privileges from Jackie at spafford@hfa.ucsb.edu
  • Users must log in on campus at least once every 120 days to ‘refresh’ the account
  • Instructor privileges allow user to save image groups, upload personal images, and access/use the Offline Image Viewer (OIV)
  • Features to try out: Browse, Simple Search, Advanced Search, search filters, associated image groups, image clusters, IAP (Images for Academic Publishing), download images (and details), saving image groups, QTVR, 3D, save/export citations, downloading to PowerPoint
  • ARTstor has excellent Help resources: http://help.artstor.org/wiki/index.php/Digital_Library
  • UC Shared Images currently hosted in ARTstor (Collaboration of CDL and all UC campuses)

ARTstor’s Offline Image Viewer (OIV)
• to download: log in to ARTstor, go to Tools, Download OIV (requires Instructor privileges)
• behaves like PowerPoint but with added features: image palette for organizing images, drag and drop images and captions, image zoom

GauchoSpace and Images
• images can be linked from MDID or ARTstor in a variety of ways: hard URLs to individual images or groups, Slideshows, flashcards/PDFs, read-only PowerPoints, etc.

Contributing/Sharing/Storing your images
• The IRC can offer hosting services to orphan collections through MDID, ensuring safe image file storage and backup (required: adequate documentation for images).
