Gallery Pages

There are a few ways to show images in a multi-image collection. Depending on what is wanted, you can use columns to show a traditional grid, flip cards are useful if each image has a lot of corresponding data, slideshow to be more interactive and give an overall ambiance, and Airtable is good for adding photos/videos to a spreadsheet type document. You can also embed a webpage if they have one, like PhotoShelter.

Also, each method has some downsides, so it is important to choose the correct method for the page. The column allows you to choose the number of columns and vary the width and hence the size of the photo. You can also add captions or text since you are inserting an image into a column. You can add a link to the photo or caption so if it is clicked, the viewer can be directed elsewhere. Probably the best way to display photos with simple captions, e.g. building name.

Flip cards are also a good way to show a grid of images, but they will be smaller as they are fitted into a square box that has border space even when no padding is selected. They are good if there are a variety of vertical and horizontal images. Since they are inserted into a square grid, they are centered and in even rows. They are really strong, though, because you can put quite a bit of information on the backside, and they have captions as part of the grid. So they are really good for pictures of items that have a lot of information tied to them, e.g. images of classrooms that can have all the equipment and seating info on the back.

The slideshow is good because you can show a series of larger images in a smaller space because you are showing one at a time. It is good for giving a feeling of the ambiance of the space etc. It also adds interactivity. It is good for smaller screens as the viewer does not need to scroll as much. However, since people will often not click through all the images, they will not get the same feel as they would seeing a grid on a larger monitor.

The embedded webpage, as shown on the Embedding page, is good because the developer has ultimate control over what is seen and the security measures used. For example, on the embedded page, the viewer can click on images to pull up galleries and then larger images and even download them. If the owner decides to lock down the webpage it is being pulled from, then it would lock down the embedded page we show as well. And if people have a password, they could then log in without leaving our site.

Flip Cards

For flip cards, you add a grid instead of a blade. As you can see from the top row middle, where a footer, caption, is just typed in, it gets half cut off. To fix this, just add an extra line below, as in the first one. this will move it above the line and just below the read more. If, however, you have a square image, it will not give enough white space to be readable. In this instance, select the whole footer and make it superscript. This will make the font smaller but raise it to be visible as in the third card.
